Graham Gall, Head of Supply Chain Support Programmes, Global Combat Systems Vehicles, BAE Systems
“We selected TSB to analyse BAE Systems’ inventory management process because we felt confident in the team’s ability to look at the bigger picture. It’s not all about implementing the latest technology - it’s about knowing what to do with it, indentifying areas for improvement, investing in developing a skilled workforce and weeding out the waste, which ultimately makes the difference between a cost and a profit centre. We needed experts on the business and service issue: not just the technology.
“What we got was a dedicated extension of our own team, who understood the constraints of our industry and contributed massively in helping us realise our potential and achieve a lean, agile and effective inventory management system.
“The nature of the supply chain beast means that maintaining this high level of efficiency will be a continuous process but we feel it’s essential in order to stay ahead of the game, meet and exceed customer demand.”
“We have seen additional benefits by working with TSB Supply Chain. Having a dedicated warehouse workforce makes a vast difference. Working solely on In Kind Direct means they are focused on our charity work with no distractions. If I had to say what the one overriding benefit is to working with TSB Supply Chain, I would say it’s the attitude of everyone involved. It is such a pleasure to work with people who truly want to continuously improve. It’s helping us, thousands of charities and the millions of people they serve. And this should translate into TSB Supply Chain being a growing and profitable business for many years to come.

“When boxing up goods we used to include a large enough quantity of one item to make the despatch of that carton cost effective. But our smaller charity partners told us they didn’t necessarily want that large a quantity or didn’t have the capacity to store that volume of one product. We also had to ship each item in a separate box in order to maintain visibility of what had been delivered, but with Matrix this problem is solved.
Now we can pick and pack at element level which matches our charity partners’ specific needs, improves packing density and this reduces our delivery costs.
Matrix can then show us the despatch method and link to track and trace web sites.”
